Does a stock (80A) Alt need to be fused? If so, how big?

Hey,

I'm doing the big 3 on my car and I was wondering if I need to fuse the wire from my alt to my battery if I'm running a stock (70-80A) alternator. If I do what size fuse do I need for it to actually be effective?

Thanks

Oh i see, thank you for clearing this up //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif is 250 not enough for 1/0 or will it be ok?

1/0 300A fuse. You fuse the rating of the wire not the load your going to pull through it. No fuse required if you trust you won't have an accident.
Does this mean if the wire comes loose, gets grounded, the 90A from the alternator will be pushing right into the chassis without the fuse popping?

Yep, exactly. Adding a fuse limits the amount of power being allowed to pass through the wire, but it's also the safest thing to do. For a regular street driven set up I'd recommend dropping in a 300 amp fuse.
