Does 1 ?X? 15" vented = 2 ?X? 15" sealed?

I keep hearing how venting an enclosure ads 3db more output. And I also hear that adding another sub of equal size adds 3db more output.

So, is that saying that say, 1 vented 15" Brahma is equal in output to 2 15" Brahmas sealed?

It doesn't seem equal, but I've read posts at other forums where people swear it'll be equal in output.

I need some insight on this. I kinda want to use my other CMPx2 and use them in a sealed box, but if it is no different in output then my one in it's vented enclosure then there is no real advantage as far as output goes.

Sound off.

in a perfect world yes porting a box does yield 3DB more output, providing all other things equal. However, if you know what you are doing, and DB is what you are looking for, you can usually gain more. Port the **** thing..and youll be happy..trust me

I thank you for your response, and I do have one in a vented enclosure, but I still need an answer to my question.

Will the one vented be equal in output to two of them sealed?

double the displacement is theoretical 6dB in gain. So no, 2 sealed will be technically louder than 1 ported ( of course this doesn't apply to high Tune SPL competition boxes)

Double the cone area = 3db

Double the power = 3db

Typical vented = 3db

On paper, a single vented will perform the same as 2 sealed. Doubling the cone area yields a 3db gain and vented yields a typical 3db gain.

Keep in mind people are able to squeeze more than 3db gain on a vented enclosure.
