Do you tip for carry outs?

People dont tip me for unloading there packages safely at Fedex //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif:confused://content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif Yes they do, it's one of the reasons you're still alive.

Yes you are, a courtesy tip. Not necessarily a percentage but kinda judged how difficult your order was to prepare.
Ie: my mom orders soups "to go" at restaurants all the time, soup is relatively easy, you just pour it into a bowl. so she might leave a dollar.

I like Fajitas from "On The Border" and I know from experience that it is a pain in the *** to gather everything for the fajitas, so I tip more like 5 dollars maximum. Unless something about the service was outstanding.

Be good to a waiter and they will be good to you in your future visits, and yes we do remember you if you tip well or badly.

To-go attendants don't expect to make their money in tips, they get a higher hourly pay for that. But a courtesy tip is always very much appreciated.
why would you tip this person....if anything you should tip the cook...not the person who turns around and picks up your food to place it in front of you:wow:

Cooks at bars make better moneyz:fyi:

That depends on the business but most of the time to go workers are paid similar to a hostess except they do extra work gathering orders. they are essentially expo workers who work for less money. I used to get 11$ an hour working expo, just looking at the orders and making sure that they are correct. To-go did that and more and had to make and prepare many things themselves for 7$.

Also differentiate between a "carry out business" and a restaurant with carry out service. Restaurants are not set up for easy carry out service, and thus more work goes into preparation.

So the restaurant carry-out service is a "COURTESY" for guests who would not like to sit down and eat at the restaurant. So again, you are not tipping for the service, you are tipping for the courtesy, as you might a bellhop or vale.

If they didn't offer this "COURTESY" I wouldn't eat there at all.

What extra service do they provide? I should give that person a tip because they didn't fvck up my order? What "service" do these people provide? It seems to me that they can only mess up, not go "above and beyond".

way too many jobs are getting screwed around with the whole tipping thing. it should the employers job to take care of the wages for their workers...not to hand it down to the customer for us to take care of. i know they make lesser money and need their tips to make a check at the end of the week, but that's the thing.....they should just get paid more and screw the tipping. those tip cups at all these different shops is getting crazy. sorry but i'm not tipping you for shoving my food in a bag on a carryout order.....scooping me some ice cream in a cup at the ice cream shop....or even drying my car with a towel at the car wash. sitting down to dinner is about the only exception i can make, but most of the others seems overkill.

I only tip for a carryout if it's a local restaurant where I know the people and I like the waitress who's working. How well I know/like a person plays a big factor in my tipping. Even when I go out to the bars, I generally tip double if I'm being served by a friend.

And Cotjones, seriously? The complexity of a to-go order does not mean you should tip for carry out. Plating a to-go order is no harder than an in-house order, and it's the cooks that do it, not the waitperson. All they have to do is look at the ticket, check the food, and hand it to me. Not that difficult, and not worthy of a tip IMO. When I tip at a restaurant, I do so based on how friendly the waitress is, how often she checks in, refills drinks, etc, and how she handles any questions (in other words, has she made an effort to learn the menu or does she just coast through the job).

i agree. the only place i make sure to tip well every time is at a place where i know the people serving me are paid less becasue it is a tip based job.

IE: a waitress/waiter or bartender. at a bar i always tip baised on the amount of time i was there and drinks i had. at a resturant i normaly do 25% unless something went really wrong.

the only time i do not tip at all is when the auto add the 18% tip. that pisses me off. I am always even sure to tell them they would have gotten more. I guess they get alot of debeat people with huge orders leaving a buck.

I usually tip the 'curbside' takeout people but would honestly prefer just going in and getting the food myself.

It's sad that we have become that lazy that it is even too much effort to get out of our car and walk 10 feet to get our food //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Only other people I really tip is waitresses and people I know make a shitty $2.xx/hr I don't see any reason to tip someone already making minimum wage.
