Yes. 308win 308nato and 7.62x51nato is all basically the same. You can buy new manufactured 308win in many different loads or you can buy 7.62x51 surplus ammo for real cheap. just stay away from anything that is corrosive. Prices will vary a lot and there is all kinds to choose from.is the 7.62 easy to come by? figure as a military round it would be a bit pricy
I like the 5.56/223 but I would not use it if I had large game hunting in mind and wanted something for longer distances. I like my AR15 though, fun to shoot and easy to carry. We use 5.56 these days. Good round, just wish we had something better than an M-16 to launch it...
Hey, is "phoneman" anything like "Cable Guy"?????

I've killed many deer with a .223. They can shoot 500 yards fine.I like the 5.56/223 but I would not use it if I had large game hunting in mind and wanted something for longer distances. I like my AR15 though, fun to shoot and easy to carry.
the 308 and 223 argument is just a matter of oppinion. You can achieve both with the 223 but with way less efficiancy. Personally you should have both in my oppinionI've killed many deer with a .223. They can shoot 500 yards fine.
Goddyd4me - a .308 is overkill for deer and if your only going to shoot 400 yards max. I'd personally get a .223 if i were you. It will do everything you want it to do perfectly and you can get 5.56 ammo very cheap.
phoneman have you ever used the cz 75? my local gun store is having a sale on it for 3 hundred something dollars. It looked pretty nice when I picked it up but I wont be able to test fire it before I buy it.
