Do you prepare?

seriously...if/when the brid flu comes more of us will wish we had food/water..the ones who dont will be forced into the infected outside. But im a fool and always spend my $ on cool things like car audio, CD's and computer shit..

It is possible that the bird flu could mutate. If it becomes as bad as some scientist think then staying home may not be an option. If it becomes a pandemic then things will start coming to a halt.

I know Phoneman would agree with me on this one; the best way to get better prepared is to go out and simulate an emergency. Every year I participate in two events, one in the summer and one in the fall where the county Office of Emergency Management simulates a disaster of some kind. We're responsible for setting up backup communications for everything, and you learn by realizing what you've forgotten //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif One year I couldn't get a radio on the air because I was missing a certain type of adapter to make the cables fit - now I carry one with me. Another year I had to find someone that had a certain power connector for a gel cell...now I have a set of universal power plugs. Little things you learn in the field by going out and doing it, but you certainly don't want to find out when it's for real.

So true. They had a Discovery Channel special on that a few weeks ago... Very interesting...

Yes, I to like to go out and test all my gear as if I were in a real situation. You realize very quick what you need, what you have forgotten, what enhancements need to be made and what you could do without. It also gives you field expeirence with your gear in a real life situation which is very different then testing it in your living room. It also lets you test the threshold of yourself and your gear so you know the limits of both. I maybe wierd but i just like that type of stuff

My organization has drills at least once a month if not two or three and we're always training up on other stuff. Like I said earlier, I went to Structural Collapse Medicine (R. I. G.) in OKC, and others such as Operational Emergency Medical Skills in Fla., Heavy Rescue course with the FDNY, Center for Sustainment of Trauma and Resuscitation Skills in Baltimore, and the Defense Reasearch and Development Course in Alberta Canada. All within the last 8 months, not to mention all of the in-house training we do...

Thats cool that you have all that training and such. I hope and strive to be one of the few people that if you ever need to use your training for something major big that you dont have to use it on me, I will hopefully be totally self sufficient so it will make your job easier. I just cant see myself being one of the sheeple

LOL!!!!!!

no one really prepares...come on look what happened with katrina...we are not prepared to deal with any major catastrophe..
True that... Take it from a person who saw the eye of the beast itself... there was not a snowball's chance in hell that ANYONE could have been prepared for that. or much else for that matter.

Sure you can prepare for small things like flat tires and such, but some of the more important things in life you cant really preparre for, like getting pulled over by the cops while youre drunk as ****, or sliding you brand new ride into a tree...

What im trying to say is, even though we think were prepared for stuff, we really arent, and kid ourselves thinking we are.

Wrong. I know of people who have 18+ months worth of food, water, medical supplies, fuel for heat and energy and many other things needed things. I just got done ordering a bunch of freeze dried food with a 30+ year shelf life. The people you refer to are rationalists that rationalize things away, AKA sheeple.

Sure you can...like...

Not driving while intoxicated?

Driving at a safe speed?

I don't exactly see your point...you're right in thinking that maybe a lot of people underestimated the gravity of the situation, but thinking that it's impossible to be well-prepared for a disaster of that magnitude is very naive.

I know I wouldn't be prepared if something ever came up. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

There's some small crime-infested town Arcadia about 30 min east of here, I'd probably hide and hole up there until things settled down...
