I suggest you read a bit on our history. You will note that the only time any referance was made to God is at the end. " Done in Convention by the Unanimous Consent of the States present the Seventeenth Day of September in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Eighty seven and of the Independence of the United States of America the Twelfth In witness whereof We have hereunto subscribed our Names,"

The reason the consitution starts out "We the people" was to make known that it was founded by the people and not a king or lord including religion.

Here is a link to the us treasury and "in god we trust". http://www.ustreas.gov/education/fact-sheets/currency/in-god-we-trust.html

Read a bit about the Framers, why they wrote the articles and constituion, and who influenced them.

For some odd reason, even prior to this thread I have been thinking a lot about religion and god. I have definetly come to the conclusion that I do not believe in religion but I am still undecided on god. I have few questions for all you "christians" out there. You guys all talk about forgiveness, repentance, and salvation, but what about the people that never had an opportunity to know of jesus or god? Take for example the native americans, did they all go to hell simply because they were never introduced to christianity prior to the colonization of America? If anything the fact that they did not discover god or jesus on their own makes me doubt christianity.

I don't particularly study the bible, so someone can probably quote the verses, but it says that people who have not been introduced to God but live a Godly life will be with him in eternity.

Ok, as the OP i read most of the posts and I do understand where most of you stand, as that is generally the world. I hate sounding like I just watched the matrix or something, but hear me out:

What if you were given a choice at the very beginning. You don't have to make this choice until you can understand it, making it a fair choice. But you are to choose inbetween religion and science. And as a subchoice, you need to choose which religion and science. Do you think you would believe what you do today?

Most of you probably were imposed onto your parents' religion when you were born. That is fine, I am a born Lutheran. I willingly renounce my faith and refuse to go to church, unless it is for my parents or fiance's sake. I am asking that question as you are not born into anything.

I'm a strong believer in both God and science.

I heard a quote once, that was good. I believe it went something like: "Science is a bright light that helps to illuminate God's work."

I don't think the purpose of science is to disprove God, but more for the sake of understanding how things work. Even (and maybe especially) in the realm of evolution. If life evolved over millions of years to become whatever it is today, that was God's way of making it happen the right way. For all we know, the "7 days" to create the earth (and rest) mentioned in the bible could be a reference to what we as people know as 7 billion years.

Just my thoughts.

I believe people use God as a krutch. And that in the old days he was used to strike fear in the hearts of the sinners and to control the masses. I don't believe that's his will, and i think people abusing his image like that shouldn't make him any less believeable.

The fact that you think it is wrong to harm others proves that there is a God. Do animals care about harming one another? No! They don't even think about it.
Thats somewhat of an ignorant statement, the animal kingdom as a whole is much different then the mutt licking his balls on your couch.

Animals fight and kill each other in order to survive and procreate, it is well documented that animals will go out of their way to avoid unnecessary conflict.

No animal under it's own decision has ever killed, hurt or argued another animal or human over any Deity figure.

Gods the one who created animals right?, and they do as they are predisposed to do as god intended.

(hold on I'm onto something here)

Now if animals are doing things as god intended maybe we are the ones that are doing it all wrong!, when is the last time you saw a raccoon performing a religious ceremony?.

I am going to start my own religion called "AS GOD INTENDED".

In this religion our whole point of existing will be to pass along the best genetic material possible.

How do we do this?

Girls, go ahead and screw all the smartest, hottest guys you can so that you may have the best possible offspring and secure the safest possible environment to protect them ensure they reach adulthood.

Guys, bang all the "healthiest"(hot) girls you can get your dick into (sorry **** not allowed its against my bible), ensure that your genetic code is combined with the best possible samples and provide shelter and assistance to the offspring to guarantee that your seed survives.

All people with genetic "faults" will not be killed but rather not allowed to reproduce(or post here).

Yep, it will be awsome.

See now is where you are losing your ability to reason. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
For lack of a better term, Adam made a stupid decision. If he had a better ability to comprehend what the consequences of his actions were... he wouldn't have made that choice.
God is all powerful. Adam knew that. God told him you may eat fruit from all other trees but this one; if you eat from this one you will die. If that wasn't enough in itself to stop Adam from making a better decision having even more insight into the ramifications of his decision probably wouldn't have either.
