Do Eminence 8" Alpha's Give good mids?

Let Platestacker or pimped97explorer (or whatever his username is) see this thread and they'll tell you not only do they sound good but that you should run 40 of them at a time...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Aside from a few notable exceptions the more commonly held belief is that drivers not intended for use in a car audio environment simply, well, shouldn't be //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

i for 1 have never heard Eminence so i wouldnt be able to tell you about them. what i do know is that they are dirt cheap. ive heard beymas and if u want loud and clean sound and dont mind spending some grip (money) they got with the beymas.

They have absolutely NO midbass.

The midrange is harsh and hard to bare at high volumes.

I would personally work on my midBASS and HIGHS before ever worrying about midrange.

Also, what amplifier AND crossover will you be using?

my fren has two 6.5" alphas and they have a good sound on them. my question is would the 8" Alphas have good midrange output? Anyone who know eminence plz advise on how good is the sound and if it is a good buy?
If you like the sound of his 6.5's, the 8's will sound the same but louder.

no midrange loving, wow. I'd figure you'd at least give midrange the priority over highs.

I worry about midbass first, then I guess vocal range... I hate blaring midrange though... I just like it to be up to par with my midbass/highs.

yup, I can't stand the sound of really loud midrange, and with a good set of tweeters and a good set of midbasses you can get away without using a dedicated mid-range driver.

I like a very smooth response accross the whole spectrum, that is of course when im not in the lanes //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Hmmm, why dont you guys focus on producing a nearly linear frequency response that you could shape to your liking with equalization. That way you wouldnt be neglecting anything and it would still sound awesome:D

FYI humans are MUCH more sensitive to distortion in the midrange as compared to the midbass and treble. We are also much more spatially oriented in that range because it encompasses speech. It is merely a function of how our ear is designed, the ear canal amplifies frequencies in that region making it very easy to discern nuances.

That's more or less what I was referring to, without stating it outright. Anyway, usually that's a good tactic, find a driver you know CAN be capable and then simply mold it to how you want it to sound. Much easier than simply using a driver that just happens to work well in a drop in alignment, but won't give you as good as a performance as a harder to use, albiet more competent one. Part of why I've always enjoyed hlcd's, they take some eqing, but it's hard to match the tonality and dynamics once you get them dialed in properly.

I really wasn't so much referring to the midrange being louder than your midbass or highs, simply that the driver should be at minimum as good a quality as any other in your set, as it'll be making most of the music.
