Distribution Blocks/Fused...what do I need?

I am the rookie here who has questions around every corner. I am looking to run 0 guage wire from my battery to a distribution block where I'll run 4 guage to two amps. Now do I want fused distribution blocks? Do I just need a fuse holder up by the car battery? What do I need here, and how big of fuses?

I'm sure this comes into play: the amps I am using are Orion XTR Pro 1000, obviously a 1000 watt amp for subs, and the HCCA 150r, which is a 400 watt amp for components.

I'd put a large fuse near the battery to protect the main power wire, then a 1/0 --> (2) 4g fused distribution block. So yes, fuse the main wire and your distro block.

Will that 150r accept 4g inputs?

Yea, the 99 Orion series amps have two different plugs you can put in, one eight guage, one 4 guage, I have the 4 guage. Do you know how big of fuses I should be using?

Yes, that is an inline fuse for use under the hood. Try to place it within 12-18" of the bar's battery.

Ok cool. Now are there specific size fuses I should be using in both the inline fuse, and for the distribution blocks? I'll also have a 0 guage ground distributed to 4 guage wire for the amps...grounds don't need to be fused do they?

The maximum size fuses you should use are 325A for the 0 gauge, and 125A for the 4 gauge. Use smaller if possible. And you are correct, grounds do not need to be fused.

For the 4-gauge wires, use whatever size fuse the amp manufacturer recommends, which will be less than 125A. It depends on the amp. If you can't find that info, use whatever size fuses are in the amp, if it has them. If the amp has two 40A fuses in it, then use an 80A fuse on the power wire.

Then for the 0 gauge wire, add up the two fuses you used on the 4 gauge, and use that for the 0 gauge.

incorrect... You fuse for the WIRE... NOT the amp... Since the amps have fuses, you use the 125A for the 4 ga.

Of course you do. But it is safer to use a smaller fuse than the maximum.
