Disadvantage of 1/2" MDF vs 3/4" MDF?

Yea, what's the difference? Why is 3/4" reccomended so much?

Any thing bigger than a 6 in maybe an 8 will flex horribly. The box will lose its rigidity(sp.). It might simply blow apart and it will be harder to secure the peices together.

Less strength, comparatively. Thus it's prone to resonate more, which is not good.

However, in less powerful applications, 1/2" could work suitably if properly braced.

Hmm, how about 5/8"? And this is assuming a Kappa Perfect 12" in, IDK, "6 top and 9" bottom or something total (including wood space). Is 3/4" almost 100% necesary (assuming I'm pushing it at full power as well).

That's the box my dad brought home, which is 1/2". I wasn't planning on using this box (the bottom of it only goes 6", I'd need at least 7" internal), but it did get me thinking that 1/2" or 5/8" MDF would be better for my small truck allowing more airspace in less, well, space //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

for a sub you have to get a 3/4" MDF.
