so this kicker zx750.1 amp on the page it says it uses 2 40 amp fuses then recommonds 80 amp fuses , why is that?

The 80A fuse is for the 4ga power wire, not for the amp its self. The purpose of the fuse on the power wire is to protect the wire, not the amp. 4ga cable I believe can run about 73 amps before having issues, so an 80A fuse is what you need for it.

The recommendation for an 80a fuse for the power wire the end user would eventually connect to the amp is due to the amp's inbuilt fusing being 2x40a=80a.

They're wanting you to restrict the amperage allowed through that lead to the maximum the amp can safely pull. The accepted method, as we all know it, is to fuse the cabling to the capacity of the cable itself rather than the gear it is feeding power to.

The manufacturer's recommendation is exactly the opposite.

Hence the 80a fuse suggestion.
