differences at kick and headrest?

I have tested an average of 8 dB difference between my kick and headrest. Headrest is alot lower score because it is farther from an acoustically reflective surface like the windshield or firewall. So you only benefit from one wave from the point of propagation instead of 2 waves, the wave from the source and it's reflected counterpart.

ah because me and my buddy wanted to sorta compare our scores because every one says we "SOUND" about the same loudness but my score was done with meca rules with the mic at headrest i did a 136.8 with out knowing peak frequency and i am pretty sure i played too low of a test tone.

his score was by usaci rules at the kick panel he did 141.8 with playing his peak frequency.

so i guess i need to get metered at the kick panel and with my actually peak!

The only definite way to tell is to measure both the same. But in my experience I would think yours would be louder.

You can measure both cars legal on the dash to see how you rank against most other competitors. I have seen up to a 6 dB difference between the dash and kick. In my car there is only a 1 dB difference though.

It depends. Your peak frequency could be different on the kick than it is at the headrest. It could possibly be 35 hz. Depends on the car, the subs, the box, the port, the power level.

I can do 33 hz, 38 hz, 42 hz, and 47hz all at the same dB. These are all .2 dB down from my peak at 46hz.

oh really well what is your box tuned to.

this is the run down let me know what ya think ok

me 93 concorde

(1) 15" fi ssd flatwind coil

3.5 cubes 33hz's slot ported

on memphis 1100d sub back port back

sound deadened trunk lid no rear fill

03 taurus (2) 15" cvr's (old black and yellow ones)

around 6 cubes tuned to 33hz's

subs up port back

massive p 1500

My box is complicated. Its a multi peak, low F3 design to flatten out response while maintaining high SPL.

But in a Concord your dash and kick panel frequency should be between 40-50 hz. Headrest may be slightly lower.

But tuning in the mid 30s sounds better.

yea his peak was 51

yea in the 30's does sound better, it is a daily driver so i do what is best sounding and loudest kinda try to have a little of both.

cause im sure i could tune my box to like 45 hz and just burp it and be done but that is no fun
