Whats the difference in buying a 60 dollar ported box on ebay and paying 230 bucks for someone to build it really?

A prefab box is just a common/generic airspace and tuning. They tend to be peaky and most have no bracing and many are built with less then adiquit materials.

As for pricing on custom encloses normally depend on how large it will be, extra options you want, and shipping. Not to mention they are built 100% for your application.

Very true. The cheap pre-fabs are going to be small and tuned high, like 1.5ft^3 tuned to 40hz for a 12" woofer...that just doesn't work well for 99% of subs out there. If you want something to truly sound good then you need to have something built around the sub and what your preferences/goals are.

I'll make it worth it to ya - 90% of the output and sound quality from your setup is not based on the subs, but the box! Now you know why it's worth getting a proper enclosure built. When I have money and am starting a system, my focus is on the tools, wire, and enclosure, not the subs or amps.

Well mike was gonna build me a 3cubic ported box i'm new to the custom box thing... i'm goin with one sa15 would 3cubic be enough and what do you mean by "tuned" should i tell him that info when being built

Mike is very good at what he does. If he designed an enclosure for you it will perform well.

thats what bob knows .. A box is everything. boxes make the build. or anyone could just go buuy equip the big boys are running and set world records. equipment and vehicle make up about 10% and box is the other 90% IMO . HUUGE difference between prefab and custom.. not to mention tuning. havent seen alot of prefab boxes that say 38hz box or 45 hz box..lol

Nothing against any of the builders on here but Mike is one of the best builders on this site. Hell I will just go ahead and say he prob is the best on here... Again nothing against any other builder. Pro you do some very nice boxes also and ram u do some great designs but mikes work is just simply amazing. He has built e1 of my box's and will be the only one that ever does them for me.

P.S Cmon guys your telling me those $60 ebay boxes that are tuned in the high 50hz range and built with 1/2" mdf and held together by hot glue arent good boxes.....LOL
