Did I mess up???

I just got my audiobahn A8000V amp. After hooking it up to my two audiobahn AW120T svc 500 watt rms subs for a 2ohm load, I noticed more sound than bass. I had all my gains and what not right. After reading up on different classes of the amps, I found that A/B which is what this amp is are better for speakers than subs. Would I be a lot better off going with a class D amp and getting a lot more bass than this class A/B amp??

There are plenty of people that run Class A/B amps for subs. There are a few Class A/B amps out there that would really only be suitable for subs due to the levels of output, to tell the truth.

The only real advantage for Class D as opposed to Class A/B units when looking for subwoofer power is that Class D amps are less inefficient than an A/B of the same wattage output and therefore create less current demands from your charging system to get the same wattage.

What exactly do you mean that you noticed more sound than bass? I'm a bit lost on that one...

I had these subs hooked up to a pioneer GM-5200T 760 watt 2 ch running the subs per channel cuz the amp isnt stable when bridged with these speakers. So therefore these speakers wern't getting nearly the power they can take and thats why I got this A8000V amp. When I hooked them up parralel to this amp for a 2ohm load, I noticed A Lot more movement but A LOT less bass which was weird. Everything is hooked up right and all the settings were right. So it has to be the amp being a class A/B right??? Someone tell me what to do....

What's your low pass filter set at on your subs amp? if it's not set at anything, start at 80. You might have it playing all the frequencies right now maybe that's what you mean by lots of noise or music or whatever you said. once you cut out the extra frequencies you don't want your sub to play it will play cleaner and then you can tune from there.

All I know is that when they were hookep up to the pioneer 760 they were hardly getting 100 watts per sub. The subs moved a bit and got quite a bit of bass out of them. Now that I hooked it up to the A8000V, the subs move a whole lot more than they did, but for some reason not that much bass. It was really weird. I messed with the controls forever. I even had a couple friends mess with it and they didn't know. The subs arn't out of phase and the gain is set properly. They are playing right, there is just not that much bass. I have no idea whats wrong. You guys are the experts.

Your AB amp is probably not a subwoofer amp; And while the sound you're hearing has very little to do with the configuration of the power supply, it probably has everything to do with the fact that that amp is either running full range, or high-passed.

*Amendment; After a little more research, the amp is indeed a subwoofer amp.

you need to get a crossover to filter out the higher frequencies. that should work if your amp doesnt have a low pass filter

What is the make and model of the amplifier? I'll go look up the specs. That should help clear things up.

*Edit: Audiobahn A8000V

Audiobahn's A8000V mono subwoofer car amplifier offers high-quality circuitry, an upgraded power supply, and a cooling fan to keep the power flow clean and cool even when demand is high. A digital voltmeter monitors your car's voltage level so you can be sure your amp is running at peak efficiency.

A fully adjustable low-pass filter, subsonic filter, and bass boost circuit allow you to optimize the amp's output for peak performance when driving your subs. Cobalt blue blahblah
Okay.

Turn the gain all the way down - which will be the highest number, ie: 8v as opposed to 0.2v

Set your "SSF" or SubSonic Filter to 25Hz.

Set your "LPF" or "LowPass Filter" to 90Hz.

Set your Bass Boost to Off.

At the headunit, navigate to Subwoofer level, and turn that 3/4 of the way up.

At the headunit, navigate to Bass, and make that flat (in the middle.)

Adjust your volume to a comfortable level.

Turn the gain up a little bit - are you hearing what you should be hearing?

Well I got my problem solved. Whoever said they were out of phase was right. I got a drill battery and hooked them up to that and the speakers were contrary of each other. So I just switched the wiring on them. Thanks guys!!
