Yes they were acquired by another company. A "cheaper" company? I don't think so. D&M holdings purchased Boston earlier this year. D&M also owns brands such as Denon, Marantz, Snell acoustics and Mark Levinson. Do some research on these other brands and let me know the caliber of gear you see. It sounds like the shop that you went to was told they were no longer a part of Boston's future plans, became butthurt and are now making themselves feel better by spreading misinformation.

We sell Boston at the shop I work at. We sell quite a bit of it actually. The products that Boston is making are still very high quality.
