Islamic law bans any depiction of the prophet, and Muslims consider likenesses of Mohammed blasphemous.

That's the difference. Of course I'm not saying that its okay to go burning sh*t down over something like that, but they are extremists. That's what they do, and the paper probably should have been a bit more sensitive in the first place.

A better one would probably be when Comedy Central aired a South Park episode with with the Virgin Mary bleeding from her ***. It was a pretty recent one. Everyone didn't get pissed off and start burning US embassies, they just told CC that they didn't want the episode aired again. Then again, its still not exactly the same, cable =/= newspaper. Oh well.
