Definitive Technology VS Dayton Audio

Hello Everyone, I am interested in building my first surround system. I don't have anything yet but I am considering Definitive Technology Mythos Ten for L/C/R or the XTR-50 for the L/R and XTR-60 for Center or the Dayton Audio UA721CBK for L/C/R. At the current moment I just want to concentrate on the front speaker with the Dayton Audio RS1202K 1000 Watt Dual 12" subwoofer. I am going to be using this system for 50% Movies, 40% Music and 10% Gaming. Room size is a normal living room area approx. 12' x 20', but don't go by room size as I want it loud and clear, most likely move to a bigger area in the near future and don't want it to be missing power. If there is any other front speaker I should consider, please let me know. I like the on wall look, but if performace is sacrificed then I will go with the towers/speakers on stands. Thanks in advance for all the help

Nothing comes close to the Def Tech Mythos series speakers in performance for the same size/shape. Def Tech has been kicking butt in the HT industry offering affordable small/shallow speakers with passive radiator technology that extends midbass performance to levels no one else can achieve.

realize also that Def Tech has spent hundreds of hours developing, testing, perfecting their Mythos line - which started almost 8 years ago. (back when i worked for an independent dealer that sold Def Tech and Paradigm) There is no substitute for R&D.

There isn't really a fair comparison between your two options since the Dayton/Usher combo cannot be wall mounted and achieve the same aesthetic as the Mythos. I understand your dilemma. Bookshelf vs on-wall.

You have a tough decision. With the Mythos XTR-50 you NEED a sub to carry the low end. With the Dayton/Usher you have a bookshelf speaker that can stand alone. The latter gives you more flexibility in the future.

Paradigm Monitor series is something else to add to the list. I love Paradigm products - another company with tons of R&D in-house. Awesome products for the price range.

Audition the XTR-50 system before you buy it. The Dayton/Usher system will have typical MTM performance. If you like the XTR system, then you have your answer - you get good sound and preferred aesthetics.

If you are going for bookshelves - don't rule out the Def Tech BP series either. Those speakers are incredible for the price. I've been auditioning and installing Paradigm and Def Tech speakers since the late 90's. They are go-to brands and they have a wide product line with outstanding products for the price range.
