defective 9855?

[noob with an RS 10+ year member]

hey my buddy bought an alpine 9855 for 350 dollars from bestbuy one week ago. he got a discount because his friend works there. yesterday it wouldnt eject a CD and he had to pull it out with pliers. is this a defective unit? is this the same problem other units had? what should he do? exchange it for a working batch? or get his money bacc? if he gets his money bacc what head unit should he go with? he said the thing he didnt like about the 9855 is he couldnt get the bass to be turned down. obviously, he doesnt know how to use the integrated EQ. so what would u guys consider that is user-friendly with noobs but still sounds very good? right now he is looking at the pioneer 860MP but doesnt know if bestbuy will REFUND his money bacc. also, what is the difference between the 860MP and the 8600MP?? ive always heard great things about the 8600 series but ive never really heard the same about the 860 series.. which is the one hes looking at.

IIRC, the 860MP is the Premier model, includes the Pro Mode tuning capabilities. The 8600MP isn't as capable in that regard.

Best Buy generally is very good with returns, he should try to get another unit if possible.
