Decline of Alpine?

Alright, even though my glidetouch is acting up, I went to best buy and was pleased with its useage. Crutchfield already sent me another unit, so we'll see what happens.

Also, are all of the new ALpines being made in China now??? my friends 9830 doesn't hace the "made in china" sticker on the face, maybe that's why the retail prices dropped a bit.

Many alpine models have been made in China for atleast a few years, now.

I asked the guy at tweeter and he said the new alpines are going to me made cheaper and not going to be as good as the old ones. The reason being is best buys is starting to carry alpine and they wanted a cheaper price on the units.

Thats what i was told....

then there hsould be a best buy series and a high end series
Why? Until recently, Alpine was in Circuit City, is currently available through Crutchfield and has basicall been *****d out all over the net for years. Why now that Alpine is in Best Buy do you think Alpine is now, all of a sudden, a cheapened name? Alpine used to be a much more exclusive name than it is now. Alpine is out to make as much $$$ as possible. Being available at Best Buy certainly would help that.

glide touch is plain stupid and unsafe for driving

FEEL of knowing where the buttons is

I think is important to NOT CRASHING YOUR CAR

I like my 9833 - but its a PITA to tune it

I wish for an HU with great SQ and old school controls

My 8250 fits that description(as do 99% of all eclipses ever made, imo). Only in the last couple of years has Eclipse had any eq more than bass/treble/mid.

I don't want to have to do a ton of tuning. The better sounding decks I have used(read: every eclipse and my 8250) have needed very little adjustment to sound great, atleast to my ears. I remember when I ran a clarion 835 for a few months. It was a good deck, but no matter how much we messed with it, it just didn't sound right on much of the music I was playing. We popped it out, put in an eclipse cd8053 and, set flat, it sounded substantially better and smoother. It was left flat while it was in my car.

I think the main problem is that people do not believe, that for some reason, with a little strip you can know where to press. Do I look down to change the station? No. And there is another thing, the only time it is really used is when you are changing to a preset station, other then that it just sits there. Sure you use it to change your cd to use the players shuffle and repeat options but even then you know where it is without looking down..

jlcivic where did i say alpine is declining. all i said was that if alpine thinks they need to lower their quality cause stores like best buy say so to carry their products they shouldnt do that with anything. you jumped to conclusions and made an *** out of yourself. i just bought a 9855 for the reason that its a good unit and you dont have to look at the glide touch while driving you know its there. you dont even have to slide if you look on crutchfield for instance there are 6 little rises above the strip and all you have to do is touch your finger there its just like there were buttons you know where they are without looking its just a habit. go check out the headunit before you guys start saying stuff and just mess around with it for a while thats what i did and decided to choose it over an eclipse 5444 or a pioneer 860mp

I love my 9855. Lots of features, and everyone that is gripping about the glide touch has not even used it. It works great and like said before it is mainly used for tuning the unit, other than that once it is tuned the remote is the main thing used.

as for the quality its still the same. and until it proves me other wise I will stand by it. I have had alpine for years, many models between me, fiance, and family members and will continue to buy them. I stand by Eclipse to, that was one of my first HU and loved it.

Well even if they did use it, in a store, they do not know what it is like to have it in a car for a couple of days of constant use. How many people know where their's cd players buttons are exactly, right off the get go? I think the only way people will stop bad mouthing it is if their friends get one and they have multiple times to mess with it and adjust to its different style.
