Deck Went Up in a Puff of Smoke...

About a month ago I installed a pioneer EEQ Mosfet DEH-P7600MP.. It was the first decent deck I had in my car.. Albeit, an older one.. But I was really enjoying it.

I ordered a IP BUS RCA Adapter cable cd rb10 from eBay, so I could plug my iphone into the deck. The deck was working fine up until I installed the cable. I plugged the iPhone into the rear output to get SOME iPhone music while I waited for the cable to arrive.. But it was always very quiet.

So last night I installed the cable.. Success!! Beautiful volume.. Pumping sound from my iphone.. So I start to put the deck back in place.. My front (factory) speaker starts to crackle, then POOF a huge puff of smoke from the deck..

I'm know what I'm doing on installing, but I don't know anything about the insides of these decks.. Is the deck toast?? Or is there hope for it?? Here I am the next morning and I can still smell it..

If it is toast.. Can you guys recommend a deck (say under $200) that interfaces well with the iPhone 5??

Sounds like one of your wires grounded and caused either a power short or speaker output short, UNLESS the deck had been tampered with, which then could be other causes...

An IP bus cable is fully insulated so that can't be the cause.

I know everything is wired properly.. I followed the diagram.. But I am new to it so its possible.. But it was also working fine for the last month..

So is the head toast, or is it redeemable/is this an excuse to get something better?

No probably can be repaired but depends on how much they would charge you. Sometimes its just "cheaper" to get another...
yea.. thats kinda what I expected.. I paid $30 at a pawn shop for it.. so I'm not going to invest anything into really.. I thought maybe if I could replace a fuse or something it would be worth it... but as soon as it has to go to a shop to be fixed, you're talking hourly wages, and $75/hour min is my guess.. which can go back into a better head unit..
