Was watching the news a few minutes ago and saw this story that some teenager was killed with a remote control helicopter. Said it slit his throat and almost decapitated him. How in the **** does that happen? I imagine this'll be coming on 1000 ways to die or something, if they still make that show.

****, ive never really played with them so i guess i dont know how powerful they are. Ive only ever seen the small ones, never seen any of the bigger ones in action.

The rotors on some of those bigger ones are almost 4.5 feet in diameter and spin at around 1600 to 2000 RPMS. Those blades can do some serious damage

Think of a lawn mower with less drag, less moving parts, and a more aerodynamic/stiffer blade. Now instead of 800rpms, double that. That's what these rotors are capable of.

NEW YORK (WABC) -- A man operating a remote-controlled helicopter was killed Thursday when it struck him in the head in a park in Gravesend, Brooklyn.

19-year-old Roman Pirozek of Queens was flying the helicopter in a park near Bay 44th Street and Shore Parkway.

The remote-controlled helicopter enthusiast apparently lost control and the helicopter fell, with the rotor blade striking him in the head as it was spinning.

Witnesses say the helicopter may have 'boomeranged' back towards him.

Pirozek was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.

Enthusiasts are allowed to operate model aircraft in designated parts of Calvert Vaux Park, which features a playground, basketball courts, baseball diamonds and a soccer field.

A group called Seaview Rotary Wings organizes flights in the park. Club members haven't responded to requests for comment.
