DD9515 "popping"

i recently picked up a DD9515f dual 0.7 and "retired" my MOJO.

i am using an oldschool earthquake amp (phd3) to power it (http://audioforum.termpro.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=20;t=012598;p=0). in a 4^ft3 @ 31hz box.

i have it wired in parallel. turned the gain up just a hair pass 1/4. and the sub was like popping. i am running 1/0 wire all the way back. voltage was low-mid 13(have not done the big 3 nor installed my kinetik 2400 due to a blizzard we just had)

is there something wrong with the sub? the box? the amp? what could the problem be? i was testing it out burping and these are supposed to be rated at 6000max. this is my first DD, and im starting to think i might want the mojo back in.

the dust cap has a dent in it if that matters. ill go take a vid. probalby wont be the best quality (iphone 4)

after a little more inspection... it seems to only do it when the voltage drops to 12-11.8. the amp is still ice cold and not heating up at all.

is that my problem maybe? still kind of new to car audio...

Usually a poping noise is caused by the coil former hitting the back plate...

His voltage is dropping like crazy causing the amp to clip. Subs always pop when the amp clips hard.

im going to install the 2400 kinetik and the big 3 and if that doesn't work then i will wire in series.

That is only a 1ohm stable amp, IIRC...

threw the 2400 in the trunk and the problem is solved! voltage barely drops and the sub quiting popping and now just sound A LOT louder than the MOJO. not to mention the amp didnt warm up at all
