hey guys,

so i got these subs and they were loud as ****( for me atleast) and i noticed a little while ago that they started to get quieter and i put my ear up to them and it sounded like it was bottoming out. i hooked it up to a dmm and both read perfectly at 4 ohms on both vc's . i only checked one sub though. i took it back to where i bought them and the guy said they are fine but i really dont think he knows what hes talkin about. he tried tellin me that my sundown amp was only realistically putting out 1100 watts. haha i didnt say anything because i didnt wanna act like i knew everything but whatever. and he told me that if you decrease the port length it tunes the box lower. soooo i think he needs to study up a little bit more. but anyways is there any explanation for this other than i may be going deaf? they are broken in all the way now im pretty sure. i have close to 30 hours on them now. would a plexi glass loading wall help? i thought my seat would act as one but maybe its not strong enough.

thanks guys,

-eric

oh yea... btw when i push on the cone i feel it scratching but only when its at the very bottom. the guy told me that was normal which is hard to believe.

scratching is not normal but when pushing with your hand it only takes a little bit of pressure on one side of the cone to cause coil rock and that would be whats causeing it to touch.

as for the rest of it If the subs are metering out fine you may just be going deaf =] I have had a lot of systems and even when I had my shop I would get people that after a week thought there system was quieter but really you just get used to it, try not listing to if foa a few days then turn it back on and see if it seems loud again =]

Pull em out and look at the coils.

1500-1800w on a pair of 500w subs is pushing it, if you drive the amp into clipping.

Push the cone up and look thru the vents in the basket, if they are dark you have likely been clipping that saz1500. And I bet you the bottom half of those coils are dark!

i know but i didnt beat on them very long. only for about 30 second intervals and then id let them cool down. ill check the coils out tomorrow. thanks for the quick responses guys.

youre probally just getting used to it. I thought the same, then i was out of town for a few weeks...came back and started bumpin and got that heavenly ring in the ear again.
