DC LVL 4 or AQ hdc3

well, all i no how to make is the L port boxes. if its the 15 ill do 3.5ish at 31hz if its a 18 6ish at 33hz

From personal exp with the LVL 4s I feel the AQs will handle more power than recommended better. My 18" was getting around 1200 1300w daily from a Kicker KX 1200.1 and I could get her a little stinky if I tried, (and I usually run my gains very low).

The Level 4s are nice subs, but I honestly feel even with the LVL 5 coils, the LVL 4XLs would be a better choice compaired to the HDC3.

Take it like this, the copper HDC3 and the DC LVL 4XL would both function very well off of 2k each, its been done several times by people on here. I would not feel comfortable giving a LVL 4/LVL 5 coils that much power daily, even though its rated at 1500w RMS.

In regards to which sub, I'm not sure really. I'm more of an amp person.

Well I can tell you the HDC3 can take 2k of clean watts and that's the copper. Aluminum a little more how much, I can't say.

Alot of people were impressed by my setup and my sub was only getting around 1200w. DCs are very impressive subs, all of them but so are AQs.

Something else to remember is the XLs have a high sensitivity compared to some other subs so they will perform better off the same amount of power. I know a guy on SMD that went from a LVL 4 to a XL off the same power (around 1300w I believe) and the XL was much louder.

ok, im getting closer. so, im better off getting a hdc3 with aluminum coils? but then thats when the xl comes in. the hdc3 w/alum is the same price as the xl... and by 2k u mean rms right?

I wouldn't tune that low with the AQs. I'd do 38hz.. I have my 18" Aluminum version in 10^3 @ 38hz on two Sundown SAZ-3500s and I love it.. They take the power all day.

I'd get the HDC3 or the LVL4XL if you want to run around 2k. You could give the new copper HDC3 up to 3k as well.

36hz to 38hz is *** on them however.

Flip a coin and pick one, you can't go wrong with either choice.. Have you considered the Sundown Nightshade? I have a pair of those too and I LOVED them in a 10^3 @ 32hz box.. I want to switch back but i'm not building another box this year.

Woofercooker is selling Nightshades for cheap on this forum.

I disagree, from personal testing I noticed NO difference from 38hz to 33.5hz TO THE EAR. Both had great range, but 38hz did buzz my ears a little more in the upper frequencies.
