DB's? loudness or ...........

I have heard MANY times "my sytem hits 150 or mine hits 155" But what is being measuder to give this nubmer? I only ask because the other day i was at a car audio shop and he told me he had a 150 db setup in his car. (2 15" memphis mojo's i believe) So he let me listen to them and even showed me on the computer tat it does hit 150. BUT i have a friend that has 2 kicker L7's 15" and his seem quite louder and he says that he got meterd and his was in the low 140's think he said 143. How is that possable?

the l7's may be at a lower note, it may have been different meters, there are alot of determining factors. it is the sound pressure level that is being measured hence spl.....

I don't know, if those scores are accurate that doesn't make sense, custel brought up some good points though

yeah that didn't make any sence to me either. i thought it was about spl. but then the one with the higher score should sound louder right? but in this case its not,, unless like you said they were measured on different mics. i dont know i just thought that was odd.

It's becoming appearant to me measured SPL and heard SPL are two different things unless the environment is completely controlled.
