tls arent accurate one from another

3 tls in one car all were off within 2db

Could calibrate it with really fancy test gear measuring air pressure in kilopascals, and convert that number to decibels...probably set at an average value depending on elevation.

its actually not a bad unit.. the one I ran on was lower than the TL, and it takes around 5 full seconds to register a correct score....

Yep, I have that same problem. Are they ever going to get that fixed or just leave it at that because it's making me mad.

It's not that TL's are "accurate" per se, but they are the most CONSISTENT.

While they may not be consistent from meter to meter, one meter will most likely do the same score over and over again in the same car/volume/setup/etc. I've seen audiocontrols range anywhere from 5-15 dB different while the most i've seen termlabs differ is about 2 dB.

I can do a 151.0 on monday, then do a 151.0 again on friday. All the audiocontrols I've been on have been ALL over the place. Sometimes the same meter will read 5 dB higher than it did on my first run. Plus, if you don't calibrate them often they can be really wacked out.

I was lookin at walmart the other day and i seen a db meter... u plug it in the cigrette lighter and it gives u a digital display of what deebee's ur hittin... i wonder how accurate soemthing like this would be?

You seen this at walmart? The only one I have ever seen at walmart is that schoshe boom stick thingy.

OP was talking the Walmart ones, I brought up the one you're mentioning. I like the http://www.splmeter.com meters, they're $350 down from a used TL. =p
