Dayton titanic mklll 15 vs rlp 15

Here is what I'm hoping to achieve:

-a SQL-heavy sub

-a sub that will make good use of only 250w

-A sub that will go nicely in a ported box no bigger than 2.5 cubes gross, tuned to around 29-30hz

As of now, I'm running 2 12" Shivas sealed at 1.75cubes apiece. One of these is making a horrible noise and needs to be replaced. So I guess my other question is:

Will switching to one of these 15's be "upgrading" or "downgrading"?

I think you would be pretty much wasting your money buying a large SQL sub like those for only 250w. You definitely wouldn't be obtaining full performance out of them.

Do you have plans to upgrade amps in the future....or are you sticking with 250w?

In the "SI mag People" thread I started there was someone running one at 250 watts and he said it sounded great. Also, they work pretty well with little enclosures. You could look into that.

so you'll have 600 watts on tap pretty soon? Rlp should work well with that from what I've heard.

Is 2.5 cubes the absolute best you can do? If so, you MIGHT, be able to do a 15 sealed or possibly a 12" ported. Both would be on the smaller side.

You can get a mag but it'll be twice as much, and if ya get it...I would get the alpine amp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I hope to be upgrading amps soon. I've had my lightning audio POS for the longest time now. And its only 2ohm stable:crap:

The mag is def out of my price range. Sure would be nice though. In fact, the rlp is really pushing my budget the way it is.

2.5 gross is the biggest i can go for a one-sub setup. What would get me more low end, the sealed 15 or ported 12?

I'm sure any of them would "sound great" with that power. The issue is that he wouldn't be extracting full performance from any of them. He could save some money and buy a less expensive "great sounding" subwoofer that will reach full potential off of that power. Something like the Image Dynamics ID12v3

I second that I got two 10's running of 400 watts and does very well.

Sealed 15.......................

I know this kid.

How would replacing his shiva with one of the new 12" shivas sound? They're dual 8 ohm, so he can keep a 2 ohm load and he wouldn't have to replace his good sub. He is also very confident on getting that 600x1 2ohm amp. I'm borrowing this amp and we hooked it up, and its loud.
