Dash better than doing kicks, Soundstage?

Can you get a better soundstage going from kicks to the dash? With the deep dash of the Dodge Ram, I was thinking there could be some potential of moving the soundstage up higher and farther out front than you get from using kick panels. Since the left kick (driver side) would be playing into your leg and the right kick would hitting your passager and maybe your center console (sub box) this might be a better option? Maybe moving the mids and tweets to the dash would eleiminate that problem but would that now cause problems with reflection issues from the windshield? What could be done to solve the reflection issues?

Thinking about placing a set of 4" components in the dash (mids) with the tweets in the a-pillars, and midbass in the doors front doors. No kicks.

Would there be a dead spot from not having anything in the kicks area?

it'd probly bring your soundstage up alot, and throw off all the timing, imaging, etc.

i don't think it'd sound natural on the dash, especially with reflection isssues, cancellation, etc.

plus you'd have to re-tune everything to smooth out the staging again, there's alot to account for. you may like it, you may hate it. just temporarily set them up there and see what happens.

It works...two of my audionutz brothers, "Steve Head and Jorge Delgado" both have rams with dash mounted drivers...both sound great." one won finals..the other placed in the top three" ..both image well...but due to the horrid PLD...a severe amount of time alignment is used and you can tell that the center image was forced...

so it somewhat sounds "unnatural"?

the center image...yes....very little if any music from the far right of the dash to about 11 o'clock...tonaly they are the best sounding dls setups aside from steve's civic that I have heard...I normaly hate dls...depth was incredible..way past the cowl..possibly center of the hood...I have pics of Jorge's truck, but not Steve's

I used to have an '87 tbird and I had high end coax in the doors and threw in a set of 3" mids in the dash and it really worked. Shouldn't have, but it sounded great.

the DLS 3 way, the tweet and the mid are basically meant to go on the dash. i bet the midbass' were in the doors or kicks though.

i would not put conventional midrange\midbass drivers in the dash. most people will not have the EQ, tools, time alignment, or ability to install their drivers in the dash.

its not an easy thing to do, and to do right.

putting any driver in the dash will require eq and time alignment....and I'm sorry to say that allot of conventional drivers work great in the dash

I have heard that it is hard, nearly impossible to get a soundstage from dash locations for two seat judging. Is this truth or somebody blowing smoke ? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

it comes down to pathlenghts....that will make or break your dash install from being a single seat...ot a two seat car
