who all owns a D2? and how mush power are ya runnin to it?

i have my D2 ran at 4 ohms w/ 1200 watts... (orion xtr pro 2400)

k, my Hu(avh p6400) goes up to 64... but my sub doents get any louder after vol 30....

so, is 1200 rms just an overkill for the D2? or is their another problem i may be haveing? such as to small of a box or to lil of wire or something to that nature???

What size wire you running..?

i've got my D2 runnin off my 35.1@1ohm seeing bout 1600rms when i let her rip. now i usually have my lpf set at about -5 on my h/u so it's seeing closer to 1000rms. my box is 1.74net 29hz tuning and my wire size is 1/0 from bat to distro then 4 to the amp. my thought is maybe the 4gauge wire from bat should be upgraded to 1/0.

You only get into the problem of the box being too small when you go below 0.38 cubic feet with a Magnum. I would test your preamp outputs to see when they start clipping, back the volume off a little bit, and then test the gain on your amplifier to see where it starts clipping and set it a little below that. The two first things that poped into my head were the gain on your amplifier and the point at which you HU clips...and/or power wire upgrade.

as for the Hu clippin.. i have a seperate amp runnin my highs...not sure if that exactly explains what your talkin bout by HU clippin.... and for the gains....their turned up to bout 3/4 the way... im runnin it at 4 ohms... and the amp doesnt cut off like most amp when they clipped... afterall.. i dont think a $1600 (retail when 1st came out)amp, should clip at all...i use to have it ran at 2 ohms and turned up even more than i do now.. and never had no problems... except for blowing the rated 3oo rms subs.... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

power wires.. i guess could be an issue... but it should have enough power... blowinf my alternator last month.. i guess could of messed up my amp.. but i dont think it did.. ... runnin the measly lil 16 guage speaker. wire... now that may have alot to do w/ it.... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/banghead.gif.8606515f668c74f6de0281deb475b6fd.gif

You do NOT have enough current to push that amp hard enough... you are simply running out of steam. Look at it this way...

You need around 130 amps of current at a consistant 14.4 volts to get 1200-watts RMS from that amp. If your voltage drops to 12 volts then you need a whopping 160 amps of current for the same 1200-watts RMS. Chances are your voltage is sagging even lower than 12v. Your electrical system will not be able to maintain 1200 watts RMS for more than a few seconds.

Your power wire is also grossly undersized. I wouldn't even think about running an amp that big even at 4 ohms with anything less than 2-gauge from the battery.

Have you upgraded alternator to battery wire? Battery to chassis wire? Engine block to chassis ground? Check those out... I run 1/0 on all three in my car, along with a 1/0 power wire.

Speaker wire could be an issue as well... You are running up to 17 amps of current through that wire. For insulated wire you should run no less than 14-gauge wire in this case (open air 16 gauge is okay up to 22 amps continuous, but not insulated). Although this is not your major problem it isn't helping the situation.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

who all owns a D2?
jon does..we hooked it up in a .5-1^3 box..it was wierd angle but roughly 1^3.it sounded like ***.500w to it.in my car off my hifo and then in andrews off his 500/1...no matter what it sounded like ***..the cone/whatever made the wierdest punching noise...it sounded HORRIBLE...but jon still needs to call me so we can make a new box and get this straightened out..but thats our events so far w/ a d2...

interesting...

u musta made a fukked up box

I'm really interested in that Magnum also marleyskater. If there's a mechanical sound (like if a glue joint failed...or is failing), I'd like to see it so that I can fix it. A Magnum sounding that bad with the characteristics you listed doesn't sound normal.

So I take it that with my tsunami 1100 my 4 gauge wire won't be enough for the 1100 watts?
if it's straight from the battery i'd upgrade but it's up to you. when i had my 1000BD Rf amp i ran 4gauge from the bat. now i'm runnin 1/0 from bat and 4 to my amp.
