Long story short, I ran out of gas yesterday morning on the way home from work. Tried getting a hold of my girlfriend to bring me some gas, as I was 4 miles away from the nearest gas station.
Instead, a CVS Samaritan van rolls up behind me. CVS, by the way, is a chain of drug stores (for those who may not have them in their area). They started rolling them out in 1978.
Anyway, he shows up, says "What happened?". I told him. He says, "I can give you a gallon of gas to get you to the nearest gas station." I say, "How much?". He says, "No charge. It's what the CVS Samaritan service is all about. Helping out stranded or hurt motorists."
So, I got the gas, tell him thanks, and we are both on our way. He gave me a card to fill out, just what events transpired, no personal info or anything. The card proves that he is out doing his job, not just parked in an alley somewhere getting head from a hooker.
So, this piqued my interests. I googled CVS Samaritan. I am amazed at what training these folks must have or attain to do this job. There aren't just your average joe running around in a van helping stranded motorists.
Check out their site. This is the link to what certifications and such you need to have or attain to qualify: http://www.cvssamaritan.com/careers.htm
Sorry for the long winded post, but I was impressed by the person that stopped.
