customizing MT motors? (cosmetically)

the 2 mt motors i have are scratched and scuffed on the bottom chrome part. i was just curious, has anyone ever sanded it down, and painted it or anything? even just sanded it and then sorta polished it to bring back shine/finish?

I tired on a CSX motor, the scratch was deep and to sand it out I ended up sanding the chrome off it went down to like a brass color. From there you could paint it any color you would want
