I saw the video of Kirk getting shot. That shot was bad. I'm sure he was dead before the gurney came. His body went limp withing 2 seconds of being shot, and there was a lot of blood shooting out. With how fast his body went limp, the bullet might have passed through his spinal cord.

That was my assessment as well. Clearly from Kirk's seat looking into the crowd the shooter was off to Kirk's left a few degrees. I am guessing around 10°.
