Shipping is only $99 I think. 5 decent speakers for $600 sounds like a pretty good deal, I'd guess. The veneer is supposed to be real wood.

For a sub, if you used a vinyl laminate in cherry, I think it would blend fine with the rest of the set, but I am not as picky as you on aesthetics.

Or you could try to match the set perfectly and use real wood veneer and stain.

I am probably going to order it if shipping is reasonable.
I will probably rebuild the box (There are a few things I don't like about it) with 13ply and stain it cherry, especially if the veneer looks high quality.

It's not too terribly expensive and I am tired of looking.

Well if you want to rebuild for other reasons, then this would be a good excuse to do so. What other things are you not happy with on the sub? Dims?

Some nice ply and route/sand the edges with a nice stain would be nice.

Also if you decide later that surround isn't your bag, then you can ditch off the other components possibly and just use those towers. I think they would be capable of a solid 2.1 setup.

It isn't exactly square....I did a quick job. Plus, I am thinking of porting.

Honestly, I don't think you will be happy with ported. I have yet to hear a ported home sub that I really cared for. Sealed is so easy to tame and natural sounding. Well, unless you tune really low it tends to get obnoxious. To tune really low you need a good size enclosure and a subsonic filter would still be recommended to cut frequencies below tuning. it can be done I suppose, but then you will be unhappy about the space and aesthetics a proper ported enclosure would be for that driver.
