What is a good brand of portable hard drives? I want a small one for this blue car. I am going with one of those pioneers with the USB adapter up front. What is max GB I can get that uses such low voltage. I am also curious if that system will do "random" songs from a hard drive.

I tried doing the USB thing with my Alpine and it was a mess. Much easier synced up with my ipod.

I have a western digital and a lot of people seem to like them, and im pretty sure you can use any sizeGB hard drive as long as its 2.5".

I was thinking about going with a new Zune since my old one has a giant spot on it.

Knowing I am going this route, do you think it would be a smarter idea to just buy an iPod to solve both my "new Zune" issue and portable HD issue. I am certain I can convert the songs from my zune to iPod, even if I have to pay to strip the DRM. Does iPod offer a subscription service like Zune?

The ipod touch is simply the best MP3 player I have used to date. When I synced up a USB to my Alpine, it was such a pain in the *** searching for songs. I finally broke down and bought a 16 GB 2nd gen touch. You can buy songs through itunes, but I'm not sure about monthly subscriptions. With the touch you can surf the web and download apps. Pandora is pretty nice. It's free and you can create radio stations based on artists, genre, etc.

The touch is an iphone minus the phone and camera.

Does it have that shake thing where it picks a resturant for you? That is about the only thing I see it has that is valueable. But I can't see paying twice the amount for that.

It still functions as an MP3 player, and the touch screen interface is nice and easy to use. You can add so many apps for free that are actually useful. I play chess on mine all the time. It's nice for watching videos as well.
