I am seriously considering buying/piecing together a componet set and a pdx amp in the jump seat. However, I wonder how good just a front stage can sound really. I wonder if I will be worse off? This crackle, pop, hiss I work with now is starting to get on my nerves.
The cheaper route is to get that Sony amp I have been eyeing and work with the coaxials. I can use my 880, but I hate having that 880 in there when I am just running coaxials.

Sell the 880 and buy an ipod and some decent buds.

However, with the 880 I can hook it up to a portable hard drive and play my entire music collection. The 6.5s should provide the same amount of bass as some buds.

Yes but the buds are easier to install in your ears than 6.5s in your door and get you the same outcome.
