Red devils are too territorial to put anything smaller than them in with. Oscars would keep them in line but they get big quick. Convicts are nice for that tank. They won't get too big. I am not a big fan of their looks, but they have good activity. If you get a female and male, they will breed. So consider this when deciding to get more than one lol. Many fry won't make it but when it is clear which will you will need another aquarium or look for a store willing to take/buy them. My dads Cichlids when matured were baby machines. He gave some to friends, a local store, then separated them.Convicts. And its free, I plan on getting something bigger later, like my brothers 75.
Iknow its not big enough for too much. He has one Red devil in his and it kills everything else he tries to put in it.
No, free is great. It gives you a chance to raise from young and transfer later and add more at that time and use the 30 as a feeder aquarium if you plan to switch to live food.I really wanted a 50 or 55 to start with, but you cant beat free. So, Im gonna take it.
Word, I read this about convicts. I wanna see what will happen. My brother also has a smaller 20 gal, just in case. But we will see. Yeah he wasnt sure if he was going to try to get anything else to put in there with the red devil, cuz it has already killed 2 other red devils and a jack dempsy I think. So he just stopped trying. He is gonna try again when he gets another big tank, so that if the red devil wont leave the otehr fish alone he can just take one of them out. He tried to seperate them last time, but by the time he got home, the other fish was already dead hahaha.Red devils are too territorial to put anything smaller than them in with.
