I don't put much stock in BR setups, so your plan sounds solid and would give you the "I did it" factor over just buying something.Iam,
I am considering a 2.1 setup for the BR. I am thinking 4" tang band bamboo cone running rull range + 8" sub ported.
This 2.1 amp from PE does 50w for subs $ 4 ohm, 25w for speakas @ 8. I can use the audio out from a cheapass DVD player to make it work.
Or should I just get a "real" receiver and use it as a 2.1...meaning bi-amp the fronts and then get a nicer (10 or 12") sub.
The second option is a bit more expensive, and I don't know if you can use the channels in that way due to processing.
I like this: http://www.jamo.com/Default.aspx?ID=6358&M=Shop&PID=15706&ProductID=18073
as an alternative, and just do the sub later. My local person wants like $500 for it....but I am a fan of the sleek style for the bedroom, plus it's compact and "all-in-one".
I don't know much about the bamboo cone but I was amazed at this driver when I used it in my center channel.

It has nice midbass in the ported enclosure I built for the center. I used it in a 2 way setup though, so I don't know how detailed it is up top, but it is for the bedroom so it should be fine. I did choose it so I could use a high crossover point with the dayton planar I coupled it with.
I see the bamboo claims a higher response but the one I linked claims 14k and I doubt for your application the 20k response of the bamboo is necessary for $17 more per driver.
I am willing to bet you would be satisifed with the driver I linked. If not you can blame me and curse me out as not knowing shit for shit.
