That is why people with child support issues sometimes turn to drug dealing. It is a quite expensive ordeal and covers far more than the marginal cost of the additional child.
Lower the child support and people become more able to pay....the "state" then doesn't have to cover the tab , and there is less strain on the police.
I have a friend who is required to pay ~$140/wk on child support....that is quite a bit. I know I do not cost $140/wk in marginal cost (I calculated it...I cost my parents about $36 per week....based on kWh and water usage.)So...what happens if his employer cuts his hours, ships out overseas,etc? If he doesn't pay, he is violation and faces jailtime. Adjusting for changes in income is a slow process...
