What is an ESN?

It's like a serial number each phone has. If the phone is reported stolen or you don't pay the bill, that is how the provider shuts service to your phone. Think of it like a VIN number. Once it is blacklisted, you can't activate it.

That is why you have to be careful buying phones used. The phones are either stolen, behind in bills, or he filed an insurance claim and never turned in the phone.

I'm not sure how exactly unlocking works, but for them to be blacklisted they are either stolen or he doesn't pay his bills. I'm not sure if unlocking changes the ESN and enables another provider to activate it.

True, though it rarely ever happens. If it's vinyl or fiberglass, DO NOT EMPTY IT!!!

You can empty a concrete pool though.
