What is the point of external hard drives? Really not trying to be an ***, just wondering

I only use mine for archiving. HDDs go bad. Simple as that. I am not about to rip a shit ton of music and movies again. Every once in a while I plug the external in, backup any new files and unplug it. If my server has a massive coronary, I am not up shit creek.

Ive got a decent amount on my 500 gig external.

I'm about to make a switch to the 1TB though.

Whew, its gonna be fun to try and fill that one up.

You will be somewhat amazed at how easy it is to fill. Well at least for me it was.
