I hate it as well. But I knew it was possible when I bought the deck. I just didn't like Alpines.
What drives me to Pioneer the most is the IP-BUS for XM Radio. Alpine doesn't make a proprietary unit and I have had the worst luck from the generic Terk ones.

I used a aux in switch for my delphi unit. I know it deviates from the KISS but it worked well. I am over XM anyway. I didn't renew it. The talk and comedy stations were good, but the digital distortion on music turned me off.

I quit paying for Sirius. I have a local station that I listen to on the morning drive and in the eveing I listen to my own music, so fVck it. It was amazing how repetitive they were anyway. They love the hell out of U2.

Sometimes I listen to some of the jazz stations...and I when I am at home, I use XM for when I am working /cleaning up the house or something.

I have digital cable at home. I just use the music channels for variety and to find new(to me) material. The quality is better with the same repetitive BS. I listened to a lot of the news. talk, and comedy on XM, but it just wasn't enough to make it worth it in the end.
