It's not rotten. It goes under the tub.
I can't get a good pic. It is a soft spot about 3" in diameter where the back of the shower meets the floor.

Should you put concrete board down? The PO had the laminate attached to the wood.
No, wood is fine. The concrete board is used so that the thinset can have something to bond to. As concrete will not bond to wood. However i typically put thinset under the board when i'm applying it over wood to fill in any low spots etc. so there will be less noise and a much lower chance of the tile cracking due to the board moving.

Where should i send the bill for my counsel?
