I have run into a problem car shopping though. My parents WILL NOT let me buy my friends civic hatchback. Their argument is, "it's a 3k dollar car.' 'Why would you want to go down in value from what you had? You don't need to do that, we will not ALLOW you to do that." My argument is, "it's a fuel efficient car, isn't that the main reason as to why we are shopping for a CAR?' 'Plus it's more my style, it has rims and looks clean so I'll feel good about driving it.' 'I'm not going to buy some fuel efficient car that looks like a POS."
Now granted, the car does need some work done to it. Yes it's 3k but it probably needs about 1k or 1500 in body work. That's rough estimates and high ones at that. It has a big dent in the roof and a small one on the back hatch door. The front end doesn't really align properly so that has to be fixed and then the trim needs to be colored to match the car. The alternator needs to be replaced and the AC needs to be put back in. NOW, the only thing that makes it not drivable at the moment is the alternator, otherwise it's a perfectly fine vehicle that gets 27mpg IN TOWN. Am I missing something? isn't the purpose of a vehicle to get you from point A to point B? I'm just wondering how you guys would go about trying to talk someone into purchasing said car.
