Crunk Flammable Jello Times

Basically, because we didn't manage to get everything in order properly before we got married we had to start over from scratch. It's a long, involved, drawn-out process that is a major PITA.

We originally were applying for a fiance visa as we thought we could get it all sorted before we got married. We didn't manage to do that but had already set a hard date for the wedding (booked a priest, both wedding and reception venues, caterer, etc).

So - since we are now married the fiance visa doesn't apply and we had to start over and apply for a spousal visa. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif
Grr!

Toowoomba is not a state //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gifIt is a city (town?) in the state of Queensland //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

But that answered my question anyway...
Really now?

i realized you said state.
but toowoomba is cooler to type

im so american
Right.

Thank goodness a passport is good for 10 years at a time. They're freggin' expensive!
With a passport and a tourist visa (available to anyone who's not a felon) you may visit for up to 90 days. A tourist visa is renewable up to a maximum of 3 times for a total of 1 year's stay. After that 3rd renewal period expires you must leave the country or else face deportation by force. *Just an //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif Australia is considerably more strict about such things than say, oh, the US??? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif*

Once that 1 year period is up you have to leave the country and start all over. I cannot afford to stay in Oz for a year without working and I won't ask my wife to support me for that length of time (though she could easily afford it)

It's a personal decision. One that doesn't make much sense to most people but my wife respects me all the more for it, thankfully, so we do what we do. Eventually it will all get sorted. If I haven't managed to get over there by Christmas time she's coming over here for a vacation (she's never been to the states) and to meet her in-laws which she hasn't done up to this point.
As the value of the US dollar isn't static, Jason, it varies from day to day. When I first went to Australia in 2001 one US dollar would buy 2 Australian dollars. Our dollar isn't NEARLY that strong currently...

According to XE.com's realtime currency converter -

1,125,000.00 AUD = 947,486.37 USD
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, what can you do with just a passport... can't you go on longterm vacation... or how long can you stay overthere with just a passport?
nG
From what I understand 3 months in most countries.

it was expensive? Mine cost $75 and $5 worth of little pictures.

Break yoself fooooo

$1AU= $1.19 USAccording to my widget which has proven to be quite accurate.
Well, I think your widget let you down or you typed it backwards. While 'tis true that the US dollar isn't nearly as strong today as it was when I went over the first time in 2001 there's no way an Australian dollar is worth more than one US dollar.

good luck with everything Prowler
Thank you, good sir.

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/word.gif.64b12e39f936af3b4fff38a1c0bd0244.gifI ****ed one Australian girl. man was that good.
I guess that's something you and I have in common then. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I've only been with one Aussie chick too - and it was bloody fantastic, lemme tell you....so good in fact I married her! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

No, that's not why but it sounded good in my head as I was typing it...

That's what mine cost, too. But when compared to my DL which gets renewed every 4 years at a cost of $23 I'll have to renew my DL 3 times before it cost as much as 1 passport and my DL gets used considerably more often than does my passport. That works out to being expensive in my mind...

Dev i see that you are scared and dont want any of the gangster kitty.
Oooo....drama!!!

Prowler...Good things come to those who wait //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
I know. That's what I keep telling myself. But - at least I have the comfort of knowing that (a) the three times I have been to Australia thus far were out-freggin-standing trips and I got a wife out of the deal so that's not too shabby. Good eats, good ****, a free place to stay and the use of a car that I didn't have to buy the first drop of fuel for makes for a pretty laid back vacation!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif And (b) add to that the fact that I get along great with every member of her family that I have met up to this point plus all of her friends like me (you know how women get when they disapprove of one of their group's partners....the little "chats" in the ladies' room get ugly) so that's a big weight off of my back.
It'll work out eventually - but playing the waiting game surely suxorz //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Busted!
