Crossovers or bass blockers?

So im having trouble keeping my 6x9s from sounding like crap by trying to put out too much bass.

I know absoluetly nothing about crossovers or bass blockers. is there any pros or cons to either one?

If you're HU has a highpass filter turn it on and set it to somewhere between 50-80hz

Never heard of a bass blocker but it sounds like both are just high pass filters. Your deck should have some sort of built in high pass filter (usually abbreviated HPF)

it does but when i changed the setting it didnt seem to make it any better.

there 0-1.2khtz. they also have 0-600 or even 0-300 ones

A small amp for those type-s would also help alot your head unit dosen't provide enough power for those to push them properly.And you could use the crossover in it.Of course if you are sticking with alpine the type-r have alot more bass than those type-s.
