crossovers and crap?

ok, im looking for some component speakers.. but i only have a cavalier (3.5's front + 6x9 in back)

SOO. i would be interested in maybe making some kick panels... and if possible some 3.5 components to go with them...

my question is;

(if i get new speakers)

what do i do with the crossovers?

i see these things all over the place and i really dont know a **** thing about them.

can anyone;

a- recommend some decent components

b- tell me what the hell crossovers do?

I dont know any brands off the top of my head that make 3.5 comps. That doesnt mean that there isnt any though. The crossover is to seperate the frequencies of the mid-bass speaker and the tweeter. Without them your tweeter will be getting low frequency signal that can destroy the speaker.

If you are making kick panels you might as well get some 5 1/4" or 6" components to get some better midbass out of them.

thats what im saying, just hook up the 3.5's to the xover as well as the 5 1\4's to seperate the ferq's from the 3.5 (they love to blow) and then i can make my kick panels.

i just didnt know what the hell a crossover actually did.

so can you recommend me any 5 1\4's that arent too expensive? (and maybe some crossovers?

basically this will be the setup

6x9 in back

3.5 in front

5 1\4 in kicks

(i got a 4ch amp... gotta see if it still works)

10" RE 1000w in trunk

(im looking at the hifonix amp 1000w)

I would make the kick pannels then get a quality 3-way comp set. Put the 4" in the door (will require a little modification).

well the problem with that is the doors how power windows, and i dont know if there is any room inside there (because there arent speakers to begin with) so im not sure if theres any room, up on top of the dash (left and right corners) next to the windshield are 3.5" mounts.

then if i made custom 4"-51\4" kicks, then i would have some decent front fill right?

A 2 way comp set has 2 mid-bass drivers and a tweeter, example 6 1/2", 4", and a tweeter.

I would stay away from 3 way co axle sets, 2 ways are good, I have heard unless they are a high end brand you are getting 3 ok speakers instead of 2 better quality ones.

so what is a comp set that you would recommend? i have no idea what brands make good comps... i know RE, IA and a few more i cant think of make good subs... those hifonix, USamps, JBL make some good amps...

That's a 3-way. 2 way has just one woofer and a tweet.
Leave your 3.5's and 6x9's running off the HU. Get a good 5.25 or 6.5 component set and put them in kickpanels or mount them in the doors. I put 5.25's in my Olds doors and I have power windows too. Amp the components, you can even share the 4 channel amp with the sub.

There's lots of decent components under $200. I like my Kickers, but the current boner around here is CDT's.
