ok so im having some trouble with one of my older crossfire amps.

i have 2 of them in my ride strapped @ 1 ohm. was doing some demos at SBN on saturday and heard one sub shut down. amp kicked into protection and immediately was coming back on. no biggie turned my sub control down on my deck and was fine until i wanted to crank on it.

Well now its in power and protect at the same time sending a popping sound to my woofers when im wanting to beat on it, but drops outta protect when i turn the sub control down. board looks clean, no burn marks or anything, so im wondering what exactly the problem could be ... any ideas?

forgot to mention i have a 225 amp alt, big 3 in 1/0 and 1/0 from front battery to distro with 4 gauge to the amps from the distro.

1/0 grounds to distro with 4 gauge from distro to amps

sorry i looked at this and didn't respond with anything helpful... I clicked hoping to see pics lol. I'd help you but your problem is a little out of my department //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/banghead.gif.8606515f668c74f6de0281deb475b6fd.gif

thanks for the bump anyway.

im sure its on the output side of things .... i just hate not being loud because of something dumb like this //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Maybe one of the sub's coil went bad but it isn't a complete short, like .7 ohm or something. The amplifier will still play but should kick into protect if you crank it up. Get a multimeter and measure the speaker's impedance to make sure it isn't that.

i dont have a DDM handy here, but i went out and put the top sub on the bottom amp, and the bottom sub on the top amp.

it was top sub on top amp, bottom sub on bottom amp. if i t was a coil on the top sub then it shoulda caused the bottom amp to go into protect this time instead of the time one. didnt happen. top amp still kicks into protect ... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

im lost guys any help.

Could be a lot of things man but you definitely need to send that amp to an experienced tech. From the sounds of it the amp is on its way out. You may already have some outputs that have failed or are very close to it. I have seen plenty of fets that were shorted or completely open circuit that looked completely fine. There isn't always something burnt when there is a failed component

I had a Crossfire CFA1000D (the model before yours) and it was "kind of" defective, it would shut off and go into protect randomly or over bumps. Eventually it fried but turns out it was the protection circuit that had a bad connection and fried.

If the same exact amp kicks into protect while driving different speakers at about the same volume then the amp may be faulty. You should check the subs anyway though just to make sure.
