Critical Mass UL12 vs TC Sounds LMS-R

Awesome glad to hear it...I don't have 2.5k on tap nor would I really want that. I will be giving it around 1100 watts (conservatively rated) from the memphis MCH1300.5 in 2.5 cubes tuned to 29hz.

I'm just hoping that recone was done with the proper coil WW to preserve the motor topology. Looks like XBL^2 to my eyes, though I don't remember them boasting the technology in their marketing.

Shhhhh...trade secret.

TC would have been my choice. Great subs all around. Of course @ciaonzo ; would know all about that :D

Knowing what I know now....the UL12 should only retail for no more than 450-500!!! Period!!! Trust me.....!!! And also the DC neo sounds just as good an twice as loud. But that is another topic.

PSI did the recone. I trust him.

Care to elaborate why. I will have both in my possession and I guess I could just make a baffle with some bolts for the TC if I wanted to swap.

Really, it's a personal preference. I REALLY like TC's sound signature. Theirs and Adire's

Nice...this one has made a few rounds here. Even has a nice recone on it from PSI so you don't have to see that absurd "5000" on the stock dust cap.
I would run from PSi reconed "SQ sub" If it's not OEM parts, don't waste your time and money. IMO there isn't a soul that buys the most expensive subwoofer than isn't going to tell you how amazing it is. Much simpler than saying "yeah, I was duped for 2 grand"

Theres people already in this thread that have said it isn't the best sub ever. That's why I made this thread for opinions.

Why would a recone be something to stay away from?

Because they might not have had access to the same quality of materials that Critical Mass had when originally building the woofer. They could have used inferior parts or parts that weren't as perfectly matched for the rest of the woofer.

Or in the 7 years since its release maybe parts got better?
No, there's really no new technology in the last 7 years in softparts that would help it. The CM is actually a good sub and to be certain the parts are optimized for that motor. I had some LMS 4000's with PSi parts that were absolute garbage compared to OEM specs.

Assuming CM is indeed split gap or dual gap, not having identical to OEM coil would certainly be a big loss in performance.

Suit yourself though.
