Craiglist Experience

So last weekend I posted up my Rockford Punch 400-4 for sale on the local Craig list. I get a text Saturday night at 5am and just happened to be awake to catch it. I text the guy back, seems nice enough, works the night shift and wants to know if I can meet him at 6am at the QT gas station not far from the house.

So we agreed on a price and I met him at 6am. He was driving a dark grey jeep cherokee with PINK headlights. Yes they actually where PINK!

Young hispanic guy, dressed clean and was nice. He asks if we can hook it up and I say sure, that way you can test it, but just don't short anything out while doing so.

So he opens the back of the car and here is this dual sub woofer box with two older ragged rockford subs mounted in the speaker holes face down with the magnets up. Box has spray in bed liner on it from home depot, a red come along strap holding it down, and lots of black screws and holes in it.

Well the amp I sold him was a 4 channel, but he wanted to bridge it to 2 channels and run each of the 2 sub speakers on a separate channel.

Well he got done hooking it up and seting it up, gets in the front and tells me hispanic music sounds really good with the subs. I'm like okay lets hear it.

Terrible! The subs themselves were vibrating making weird noises and showing a ton of cone movement with the gains way too high on the amp the entire hatch area was vibrating an insane amount...

He smile as he turned it up more and said doesn't it sound good.

I said yea man, looks like that amp should work good for you...

Hey, if he was happy with it thats good, and I got my money... But man how can people take all that rattling noise...

Just messing around guys far from racist here.....

Yep, I did let him hear my system with the sound deadening, no rattle or vibrations, he really liked it so maybe he will look at improving things, I even suggested he get a dedicated class d mono sub amp and use the rockford for the doors and rears (was running off head unit power).

So hopefully he will get the idea and want to change and improve his system. Maybee I sparked his interest enough for him to research and change things up a bit. Like I said he was a nice guy, perhaps just getting into it.

One thing that bothers me is that I have not found one person I could compare their setup to my setup. I keep wanting to hear someone elses system that is done to the same level of detail as mine so I can hear the differences. But to date since getting back into this a little after not doing anything for years I have yet to find anyone who has anything even close to what I have....

I did go to a car "audio" show but it was out near macon georgia and wasn't really a car audio show more of a lowered truck show and most of the trucks there were not even close to show quality and were works in progress for the most part. During the time I was there I did not hear 1 STEREO playing. Most of the equipment that was there was mediocre best buy stuff with installs that were not clean...

There's a NOPI thing coming up in august so I'm going to go to that to see whats up. I would really like to see and hear some killer setups that are way better than mine...

I dont like dealing with people from cl. 2 spanish guys wasted an hour of my time when i was selling a pair of type r's. Put 1 of the subs in a box with a cutout way too big and a single screw holding the sub in. Tried telling me the subs are making a psh psh psh sound and looks like i reconed them after he inspected 1 of the subs. Said hes reconed plenty of subs in his day and theyre just not the same, but 20 minutes before that he just told me hes new to car audio.

I've had pleasent dealings when selling audio on cl. Some buyers are a little slower then most when it comes to the hobby but I've never had somebody waste my time or try to F me on the agee'd price when actually meeting up.

What I have learned is to drive no more then 10 minutes to meet somebody, carry a small blade cuase they usually don't come alone, daylight and in public, don't meet at your place unless it's completely necessary.

I once drove an hour to buy an amp and the guy never showed, answered, responded, or anything. I told him he's lucky I didn't know his address because I wold let Garmin take me to him and he would not enjoy the experience. (no ninja edit allowed).

That only happened to me once. Matter of fact, it was a member on here //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/blackeye.gif.66a1670f5aaf7f406e783a63e3387dc5.gif

And it's the sole reason why I don't go out of my way anymore when selling. Buying is different.

Well what made it so bad was that it was just an item I legitimately wanted and was paying fair (not great of a deal) price for it, drove all that way, waited like an hour and a half (with the GF who already wasn't happy) and never heard anything. Now beforehand the guy was cool as heck, responded timely, and sounded like he knew what he was talking about. All in all it just added up to me never doing any business that far away again. But, there was one guy who sold me a Diamond D6 1000.1 for a great deal, and drove 45 minutes to deliver it (I gave him $10 for gas just because he was such a nice, willing guy needing some cash).
