Illegal Prescription Discovered for Actor Found Dead - NYTimes.com

Judy Haim, the actor’s mother, told the TV show “Access Hollywood” that the coroner’s office called her after an autopsy on Thursday and said Mr. Haim had an enlarged heart and water in his lungs.

Mr. Haim, 38, was undergoing treatment for prescription drug addiction at the time of his death, said the actor’s agent, Mark Heaslip, but had not taken any pills for almost a year.

“He weaned himself from 50 pills a day to zero with the help of a doctor,” Mr. Heaslip said.

The investigation has linked more than 5,000 fraudulent prescriptions to the drug ring so far, officials said. While combing a database of prescriptions in the state, investigators found one in Mr. Haim’s name for OxyContin. The ring is based in San Diego, where the county’s district attorney is prosecuting the case.
