Seattle police are facing criticism after an officer was caught on video punching a girl during an arrest, reports said.
The officer, identified as Ian P. Walsh by the Seattle Times, can be seen punching the girl when she tried to intervene in her friend's arrest for jaywalking.

The Times identified the intervening girl as Angel L. Rosenthal. Both her and her friend ended up being arrested, the report said. Both have criminal records.

Seattle police are investigating.

The Times' report said Walsh, 39 joined Seattle's police service in 2006. He has been placed temporarily on a training unit while a review is underway.

He simply had to say that they were both under arrest, and they both would have been guilty of resisting arrest. If call back up and keep his fist to himself.

Just because he can doesn't mean he should.

It is abuse of power. There were many other options available to him.

Ummmmm no. The girl should have obeyed the officer and done what she was told. The girl he punched wasn't even the jaywalker it was her friend who shouldn't have even been involved. You jump on an officer when he's dealing with someone who's resisting arrest you better be prepared for the outcome. You have to be incredibly stupid to jump on an officer. He doesn't know what she could do, she could reach for his gun or she could have a weapon on her already. The officer handled the situation appropriately especially under the circumstances.

I agree he shouldnt have clobbered her but im sure any one of us would do the same thing if someone was in his situation.....its just gonna turn into a racial thing....im waiting for the "what a white pig" and the "damm stupid cracker" comments.
